Diploma in Taxation
Lecturer: Alan Moore

Following the successful launch of the 14 week Diploma in Taxation last February, Dublin Business School is pleased to announce the programme will commence again in October 2009.

The Diploma in Taxation is based around Tax Magic, the best-selling book by Alan Moore who is widely known for his regular articles in The Sunday Business Post. Alan delivers this programme and brings with it his 28 years' experience in taxation, 13 of these with Revenue, in the areas of VAT, Capital Acquisitions Tax, Income Tax, Corporation Tax and Capital Gains Tax. A former inspector of taxes and Council Member of the Irish Taxation Institute, he was private sector consultant to the Revenue Commissioners on the drafting of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997.

Knowledge of the tax consequences of personal business transactions is key to maximising value and enhancing profit and cash flow. The Irish tax code, running to several thousand pages, is complex and a minefield to the unwary. Students of the Diploma in Taxation will be expertly guided through the various taxes and shown the various tips that can save you money, and traps that can cost you money. The programme will also suit business owners wishing to acquire knowledge of the fundamentals of taxation. It will also suit accountants and lawyers wishing to obtain knowledge of basic planning techniques.

On completion of the programme, students should be able to:

  • File their own tax returns (income tax, VAT, PAYE) and complete tax computations using the Revenue Online System (ROS)
  • Identify tax issues from real-life scenarios, and suggest solutions based on what they have learned
  • Save tax by maximising use of tax relief and exemptions, thus minimising their own tax liability
  • Avoid problems with Revenue

This Diploma course is 14 weeks duration part-time and provisionally due to commence on October 5th 2009. Classes are provisionally scheduled for Monday evenings from 6.15pm to 8.30pm. The fee for this Diploma is €1,400 and this is inclusive of tuition, registration and exam fees.
