1. General

1. What service does Taxworld provide?

Taxworld provides a membership based service that allows you to easily navigate the Irish Tax legislation online.

Every year we produce a consolidation of the major tax acts as they are updated by the Finance Act.

Each section is prepared with explanation and references are linked to their source. For any particular section you can view Revenues's guidance note and you can switch to see how a section was consolidated for a previous year.

We also provide access to a range of other useful material such as the VAT Regulations, Revenue Tax Briefings and online copies of publications such as Tax Magic, written by Alan Moore.

All material is easily searchable using our Google powered search bar.

2. Is membership free?

Membership is divided into different subscription levels. The first level is Basic which is free of charge. Basic members get access to legislation consolidated for previous years only and not the most recent year.

To access the most recent year as well as the explanation and other material you can choose between one of our higher subscription levels which incur a fee.

4. Worldpay reported a failure with my last FuturePay payment. What does this mean?

It means that an issue was encountered while trying to retrieve your subscription payment. This prevented Worldpay from processing the transaction successfully.

This can happen for a few reasons:

- Expiry date on your card has passed.

- Card details set in your FuturePay agreement do not match with the card issuer's records.

- Insufficient balance.

One attempt to process the payment will be made each day for three days. If the payment can not go through your membership is temporarily suspended until the matter can be resolved.

When suspended your subscription level is reduced to Basic and your Account page will contain instructions on how to resolve the matter. Follow these instructions to update your card details with Worldpay so payment can proceed as normal or call us on +353 (1) 872 8890 and we'll do it for you.

As soon as payment is confirmed the suspension is lifted.

2. How do I navigate the site?

There are several ways of navigating the site:

1. Searching

The Google search box is located at the top of every page. Simply type in keywords and run the search. The returned results will display the most relevant page titles of pages that contain all or one of the keywords you searched for. If you get back too many pages or that are vague in nature, try narrowing your search by adding more closely related keywords. If you get little or no results try removing some keywords.

Selecting the "exact match" button will only return results where the words are together. For example searching the phrase "tax relief" returns the page to Section 847 - Tax relief for certain branch profits

If you know the section number, section title or page title you can search for that too. For example, if I wanted section 10 of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997 I could type the shorthand: "TCA1997 section 10".

Value-Added Tax Act, 1972VATA1972
Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997TCA1997
Stamp Duty Consolidation Act, 1999SDCA1999
Capital Acquisitions Tax Consolidation Act, 2003CATCA2003

2. Menu

The menu is located on the left hand side of every page. Use it to find the contents of material available under the different taxes and publications.

3. Web Address

The legislation is saved under easy to read web addresses. First, the legislation address always begins as "http://www.taxworld.ie/legislation" After that, all you need to know to find any section, is the act name in its abbreviated form, the consolidation year and the section number.

For example the web address to Section 1 of the Value-Added Tax Act 1927 consolidated in 2008 is: "http://www.taxworld.ie/legislation/VATA1972/2008/10". The address for section 81A, Stamp Duties Consolidation Act 1999 as amended in 2005 is: "http://www.taxworld.ie/legislation/SDCA1999/2005/81A"

4. Section controls

While viewing a section page, various controls are displayed underneath the section title. Use them to move between the previous and next section or open the section's guidance note from Revenue. Click on the year link to reveal a menu that lets you switch between different consolidated versions or click the view link to switch between viewing the explanation without the legislation or vies-versa and then print for offline reference.
