We have a client that is going through a revenue audit. It is mainly cash business of take-away/ restaurant. When the revenue first called a few months back all that was being kept was a z read at end of every night for each till. These were used for vat purposes. During the initial inspection by revenue it was noted that client should be keeping electronic back up of all tills also i.e electronic journal. This was implemented the following day and now the electronic journal is backed up nightly (electronic journal is basically list of all transactions exported to a csv file and breaks down gross, product sold employees name etc) When a sample was given to revenue they wanted it in column format rather than line format. Our till provider says this cannot be done as the tills do not have the capability of same and to do this an excel expert would have to write a program for same. We have communicated this to revenue and now they are saying we need to keep print off of the journal also each night from the till (even though the print off is the same as the electronic format) The manual print-outs lead to a lot of printing on expensive till roll paper. My question is are we obliged to get new format for revenue and if not do we have to print manual journals?

I think what Revenue want can be done fairly easily using a pivot table http://www.excel-easy.com/data-analysis/pivot-tables.html to output what they want.
