Client subjected to Audit following V.A.T. reclaim. Visit occurred and all business records inspected. Inspector now requesting copies of Wife's personal bank accounts on basis of Joint assessment and rec. of small payments €1,500 approx to wife from business accounts. I've resisted initially on the basis that these do not form part of return of income filed by client. As V.A.T. is being witheld by Inspector I will more than likely have to relent on this, however, my concern is that this will be regarded as a standard request in future audits, any thoughts?. What is the best way to proceed? Is there a data protection issue on forwarding copy statements?
