A paye client has requested us to perform a top slicing relief calculation on an exgratia payment he has received. During 2010 he invested in a film relief scheme and had the tax refund processed through his salary as he gave the details to his paye district once he had the relevant backup. This gives him a low rate of tax for that tax year. Does one have to adjust for the relief on the film relief when calculating the average rate of tax paid over the previous 3 years? Thanks. Manus
