My understanding is that an Irish resident with UK rental income, normally elects not to be taxed in the UK and pays their tax in Ireland. A client(Irish resident, ord resident, & domiciled and is a chargeable person) who has purchased a UK property has been told by HMRC that he can elect to be taxed on the rents in the UK only under the 1976 DTA between Ireland and the UK. Is this correct?
