Charge of inheritance tax

Section 9 imposes the charge to inheritance tax on the taxable value of every taxable inheritance taken by a successor.

  • Inheritance tax is the capital acquisitions tax charged on inheritances, computed in accordance with the Capital Acquisitions Tax Consolidation Act 2003.
  • The tax is charged on the taxable value (as determined under section 28) of every taxable inheritance (as defined in section 11) taken by a successor.
  • The charge applies where the date of the inheritance is on or after 1 April 1975.
  • The tax is subject to the provisions of the Act and any regulations made under it.
