Citation and references to amended enactments

Section 14 explains how Acts may be cited in documents and confirms that any reference to legislation automatically includes all subsequent amendments to that legislation.

• An Act can be cited by its long title, short title, or by its number and the year it was passed
• Acts passed before the Irish Free State Constitution of 1922 may be cited by their regnal year and chapter number
• A reference to any piece of legislation is always taken to mean that legislation as amended, regardless of when the amendment was made
• When citing an Act by its short title, commas immediately before and after the year reference may be omitted if they are not needed for punctuation
