Customs Act 2015 section 1

Short title, construction and commencement

Section 1 establishes the formal title of the Act, confirms it forms part of the broader body of customs legislation, and sets out how and when it comes into force.

  • The Act is formally cited as the Customs Act 2015.
  • This Act and all existing Customs Acts are to be read and interpreted together as a single body of law.
  • The Minister for Finance decides when the Act (or individual parts of it) comes into operation, by issuing one or more commencement orders.
  • Different start dates may be set for the repeal or revocation of different enactments (or different provisions within those enactments) listed in Schedule 1.
