Finance (Local Property Tax) Act 2012 section 136

Payments made against deferred amount

Section 136 deals with voluntary payments made by liable persons towards deferred local property tax amounts and how Revenue applies those payments.

  • A liable person who has been granted a deferral of local property tax may choose to make a payment towards the deferred amount at any time.
  • The payment may be for the full deferred amount or only a partial amount β€” there is no requirement to pay everything at once.
  • Revenue will credit any such payment against the earliest outstanding liabilities first, before applying any remainder to later years.
  • This ensures that the oldest deferred liabilities are cleared first, reducing the period over which interest may accrue on deferred amounts.
