Self-assessment

Section 52 defines the term "self-assessment" as used throughout the Finance (Local Property Tax) Act 2012.

  • Self-assessment is the liable person's own calculation of the local property tax (LPT) due on a relevant residential property.
  • The assessment is made as part of the liable person's LPT return.
  • The assessment may be carried out by the liable person themselves or by someone authorised to act on their behalf, such as an agent.
  • The assessment relates to the amount of LPT payable in respect of a specific property on a particular liability date.
