Commencement

Section 2 deals with when the Succession Act 1965 came into operation.

  • The Act did not come into force automatically upon being passed by the Oireachtas.
  • The Minister was given the power to set the commencement date by ministerial order.
  • The earliest permitted commencement date was 1 July 1966.
  • The Act could not take effect before that date, but could be commenced on or after it at the Minister's discretion.
