Stamp Duties Consolidation Act 1999 section 62

Limitation of stamp duty on certain instruments relating to 2 or more distinct matters

Section 62 limited the stamp duty charged on a single instrument that dealt with two or more separate non-life insurance policy matters, capping the total charge at Β£1; the section has since been repealed.

  • The section applied where one instrument contained or related to two or more distinct matters.
  • Each of those matters had to fall under the Schedule 1 heading for a policy of insurance other than life insurance, covering a risk located in the State.
  • In those circumstances the instrument could not be charged duty exceeding Β£1, even though it covered several matters.
  • The section was repealed by section 62 of the Finance Act 2021.
