Amalgamation of unit trusts

Section 88G provides a stamp duty exemption for instruments that give effect to a scheme of amalgamation of unit trusts falling within section 739D(8C) of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997.

  • No stamp duty is chargeable on instruments made for the purposes of, or in connection with, a qualifying scheme of amalgamation.
  • The amalgamation must be one to which section 739D(8C) TCA 1997 refers.
  • The exemption applies to amalgamations of unit trusts (investment undertakings).
  • The relief was introduced by Finance Act 2012.
