Stamp Duties Consolidation Act 1999 section 78D

Duty charged

Section 78D charges electronic transfers of stocks or marketable securities, made through a relevant system, to stamp duty at the rate of 1%.

  • A transfer order, or deemed transfer order, under section 78B that is chargeable under the "Conveyance or transfer on sale of any stocks or marketable securities" heading in Schedule 1 attracts duty at 1% of the consideration.
  • Where the transfer operates as a voluntary disposition inter vivos, duty is charged on the value of the interest transferred rather than on any consideration given.
  • The amount of duty produced by the calculation is rounded to the nearest cent.
  • Any half of a cent is rounded up to the next whole cent.
