Rate of duty

Section 70 set the rate of stamp duty that applied where securities were transferred electronically through the CREST system.

  • Applied a charge of 1% of the consideration where securities were sold and transferred electronically through CREST.
  • Charged duty by reference to the value of the securities, rather than a sale price, where the transfer was a voluntary disposition inter vivos (a lifetime gift).
  • Required the duty on such a voluntary disposition to be calculated to the nearest cent.
  • Was repealed by section 69 of the Finance Act 2022.
