Stamp Duties Consolidation Act 1999 section 73

Exemptions

Section 73 provided two specific exemptions from the stamp duty charge on electronic transfers of securities, but it has since been repealed.

  • Section 73 exempted certain electronic securities transfers from the stamp duty charge imposed by section 69.
  • The first exemption covered a renunciation of rights or securities in a quoted company made under a letter of allotment.
  • The second exemption covered the conversion of paper (certificated) securities into electronic (uncertificated) securities transferable within the CREST system.
  • The section was repealed by section 69 of the Finance Act 2022 and no longer has effect.
