Section 172A defines a recognised qualifying intermediary.

A recognised qualifying intermediary (QI) is a special type of QI. It must either be a recognised clearing system or fully owned by a recognised clearing system (section 246A(2)(a)).

These recognised QIs have the benefit of receiving relevant distributions without any dividend withholding tax (DWT) being taken out. They can also pass these distributions to another recognised QI or an authorised withholding agent (AWA) without any DWT deductions.
