Taxes Consolidation Act 1997 section 265A

Deposits of certain persons

Section 265A requires financial institutions to include additional identifying information when making returns to Revenue in respect of deposit interest that is exempt from DIRT.

  • Where a deposit is exempt from DIRT because the account holder is aged 65 or over, or is permanently incapacitated, additional information must be included in the return to Revenue.
  • If the account holder is an individual, the return must include their PPS (Personal Public Service) Number.
  • If the account holder is not an individual (for example, trustees of a special trust for a permanently incapacitated person), the return must include the entity's tax reference number.
  • This additional reporting requirement applies on top of the standard information already required under the general DIRT return obligations.
