Taxes Consolidation Act 1997 section 871

Power to combine certain returns and assessments

Section 871 allows returns, assessments and other documents relating to capital gains tax to be combined with those relating to income tax or corporation tax.

  • Any return, assessment or other document dealing with chargeable gains or capital gains tax may be combined with one dealing with income or income tax.
  • Equally, such a document may be combined with one dealing with profits or corporation tax.
  • This avoids the need for separate standalone documents where capital gains tax matters arise alongside income tax or corporation tax matters.
  • The provision is a practical administrative measure enabling Revenue and taxpayers to deal with all relevant tax heads in a single document.
