Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System Act 2024 section 110

Amendment of Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005

Section 110 amends the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 to allow the National Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings Authority to share personal information and use PPS numbers and public services cards in carrying out its functions.

  • The definition of "relevant purpose" in the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 is expanded to include the provision of services under the automatic enrolment system, enabling personal information and PPS numbers to be shared for that purpose.
  • The National Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings Authority is added to the list of specified bodies in Schedule 5 of the 2005 Act, bringing it within the established framework for data sharing between public bodies.
  • As a specified body, the Authority may use PPS numbers to identify individuals and share personal information with other bodies such as the Department of Social Protection and the Revenue Commissioners.
  • These amendments provide the necessary administrative foundation for the day-to-day operation of the automatic enrolment system, including enrolling employees, managing contributions, and administering savings accounts.
