Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System Act 2024 section 25

Appointment of chief executive

Section 25 provides for the appointment, terms of office, and functions of the chief executive of the Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings Authority.

  • The chief executive is appointed by the Board with the Minister's consent, recruited through standard public service procedures, though the Minister may designate the first chief executive before the Authority's establishment day.
  • The chief executive is a civil servant of the State, holding office on terms set by the Minister with the consent of the Minister for Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform, covering remuneration, expenses, and superannuation.
  • The chief executive may not hold other employment without Board consent, is not a Board member, but may attend and speak at Board and committee meetings.
  • If the chief executive dies, resigns, or is temporarily unable to act, the Board may, with ministerial approval, nominate a staff member to perform the role until a replacement is appointed or the chief executive resumes duties.
