Accounts and audits

Section 39 requires the Authority to maintain proper annual accounts and submit them for audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General.

  • The Authority must keep all proper accounts of income, expenditure, assets, liabilities and property in a form approved by the Minister.
  • Annual accounts must be submitted to the Comptroller and Auditor General for audit by 1 March following the relevant financial year, or an earlier date if specified by the Minister.
  • Within one month of the audit certificate being issued, the accounts and the auditor's report must be given to the Minister, who then has two months to lay copies before each House of the Oireachtas.
  • The Minister may require the Authority to provide any information relating to its accounts, and may appoint a person to examine the Authority's books and records, with the Authority paying the audit fee fixed by the Minister.
