Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System Act 2024 section 57

Contributing participants

Section 57 defines who counts as a "contributing participant" in the automatic enrolment system and the circumstances in which that status is lost or regained.

  • Any participant who is under pensionable age is, by default, a contributing participant.
  • A participant who opts out ceases to be a contributing participant from the opt-out date.
  • If an opted-out participant is assigned a re-enrolment date, they become a contributing participant again on that date.
  • A participant who suspends contributions under section 62 is not treated as a contributing participant for the duration of the suspension.
