Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 101

Conditions for receipt

Section 101 sets out the PRSI contribution conditions that a carer must satisfy to qualify for Carer's Benefit.

  • The carer must have at least 156 qualifying contribution weeks since first entering social insurance up to the date of claim.
  • In addition, the carer must satisfy one of three alternative recent contribution tests based on 39-week or 26-week thresholds.
  • These alternatives allow flexibility depending on whether contributions were made in recent contribution years or in the 12 months immediately preceding the claim.
  • The Minister may make regulations to modify these contribution conditions.
