Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 102

Rate of benefit

Section 102 sets out the weekly rates of Carer's Benefit and the additional amounts payable for qualified children, including rules that reduce or remove child increases where the carer lives with a spouse, civil partner, or cohabitant.

  • The basic weekly rate is €271.00 for caring for one person, or €406.50 for caring for more than one person.
  • Additional amounts are payable for each qualified child living with the carer: €58.00 per week for a child under 12, or €78.00 per week for a child aged 12 or over.
  • Where the carer lives with a spouse, civil partner, or cohabitant, the child increase is halvedβ€”unless that partner's weekly income exceeds a prescribed threshold, in which case no child increase is payable at all.
  • The rule removing child increases where a partner's income is too high does not apply to claims made before 5 July 2012.
