Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 67

Duration of payment

Section 67 sets out how long a person can receive Jobseeker's Benefit before they must requalify, and how they go about requalifying.

  • Standard entitlement is 156 days (6 months) for those with fewer than 260 PRSI contribution weeks, or 234 days (9 months) for those with 260 or more contribution weeks
  • To requalify after exhausting benefit, a person must have 13 weeks of new qualifying contributions since their last entitlement day
  • Those who qualify through optional contributions only are limited to 78 days of benefit per benefit year
  • Days spent on related payments (Jobseeker's Allowance, Pay-Related Benefit, or Short Term Enterprise Allowance) count towards the benefit limit
