Description of benefit

Section 39 catalogues all the social insurance benefits available under Part 2 of the Act, covering payments from illness and family-related leave through to pensions and bereavement supports.

  • The section lists all contributory (social insurance-based) benefits, ranging from illness benefit and partial capacity benefit to maternity, paternity, adoptive, and parent's benefit, as well as health and safety benefit.
  • Jobseeker's benefits are covered in several forms: standard jobseeker's benefit, jobseeker's benefit for the self-employed, jobseeker's pay-related benefit, and the Covid-19 pandemic unemployment payment.
  • Longer-term and pension-related benefits include occupational injuries benefit (comprising injury benefit, disablement benefit, and death benefit), carer's benefit, State pension (contributory), State pension (transition), invalidity pension, bereaved partner's (contributory) pension, and guardian's payment (contributory).
  • Bereavement-related payments β€” the bereavement grant and the bereaved parent grant (where the recipient qualifies by virtue of a Part 2 benefit) β€” are also included, along with treatment benefit for as long as the relevant provision remains in force.
