Disqualification from certain payments while participating in Community Employment

Section 247B disqualifies persons employed under the Community Employment scheme from receiving most social welfare benefits and assistance payments.

• A person on a Community Employment scheme is generally barred from receiving social insurance benefits and social assistance payments for any week (or part-week) they are employed under the scheme.
• Certain payments are exempt from the disqualification: disablement benefit, death benefit funeral grants, bereavement grants, bereaved parent grants, weekly or monthly supplementary welfare payments, and certain supplementary welfare allowances.
• The disqualification also prevents a CE participant from receiving an increase in disablement pension on grounds of incapacity.
• Participants whose Community Employment began before 16 January 2012 are exempt from all of these restrictions and may continue to receive their existing benefits and assistance alongside their CE participation.
