Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 68KG

Refusal or failure to attend activation meetings relating to jobseeker's pay related benefit

Section 68KG sets out the staged penalties that apply when a person receiving Jobseeker's Pay-Related Benefit fails to engage with employment support requirements.

  • The Minister can require benefit recipients to attend information meetings about employment opportunities or undergo assessments of their education and training needs
  • Non-compliance without good cause results in a reduced weekly benefit rate (section 68KE(3))
  • Continued non-compliance after 21 days at the reduced rate can trigger a second notice, and further refusal leads to complete disqualification from benefit for up to 9 weeks
  • After a disqualification period ends, the entire process can restart if the person still refuses to comply with a new notice
