Notice of accidents

Section 88 sets out the requirements for notifying employers of workplace accidents that may give rise to occupational injuries benefit claims.

  • When a workplace accident occurs that could result in an occupational injuries benefit claim, formal notice must be given within a prescribed timeframe.
  • The injured worker is responsible for giving notice, but if they die from the accident, another designated person must do so.
  • Notice must be given to the employer or another person specified in regulations.
  • Failure to give notice without good cause may result in disqualification from benefits for a period determined under the regulations.
