Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 56

Increases for qualified adult and qualified children

Section 56 sets out the increases to Health and Safety Benefit payable for dependants, including qualified adults and qualified children.

  • A weekly increase of €168.60 is payable for a qualified adult, but only one such increase can be claimed at any time.
  • Additional weekly increases are payable for each qualified child living with the beneficiary: €58.00 for children under 12 and €78.00 for children aged 12 or over.
  • Where a qualified child lives with both the beneficiary and a spouse, civil partner or cohabitant who is not a qualified adult, the child increase is reduced to half rate.
  • No child increase is payable if the spouse, civil partner or cohabitant's weekly income exceeds the prescribed threshold.
