Construction of certain references in Local Government (Superannuation) Act 1956

Section 98 ensures that cross-references to the old occupational injuries legislation in local government superannuation law continue to operate correctly after the consolidation of social welfare law.

• The Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) Act 1966 was consolidated into the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005.
• Certain definitions in the Local Government (Superannuation) Act 1956, specifically "service day" and "wages", refer to the 1966 Act.
• Section 43 of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act 1956 also contains references to the 1966 Act.
• All such references must now be read as referring to the occupational injuries provisions in the 2005 consolidation Act.
