Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 122

Increases (including increases for qualified adult and qualified children

Section 122 sets out the various increases that can be added to the basic weekly invalidity pension rate for dependants and personal circumstances.

  • An increase is payable for one qualified adult dependant, with a further amount where that adult reached pensionable age before 2 January 2014.
  • Child increases depend on age: a specified amount for each qualified child under 12 years and a higher amount for each qualified child aged 12 or over, provided the child normally resides with the beneficiary.
  • Where a qualified child lives with both the beneficiary and a spouse, civil partner, or cohabitant who is not a qualified adult, child increases are halved β€” or removed entirely if that partner's weekly income exceeds a prescribed threshold (though this income rule does not apply to claims made before 5 July 2012).
  • Further increases apply where the beneficiary lives alone, has reached age 80, or ordinarily resides on an island off the Irish coast.
