Data exchange - provision of education

Section 266 allows a specified body to share prescribed information with the Minister for Education and Science or the Higher Education Authority for specific educational purposes.

• A specified body may share prescribed information with the Minister for Education and Science or the Higher Education Authority, regardless of any restrictions in other legislation.
• Information may be shared with the Minister for Education and Science where it is needed to provide education in accordance with section 6(b) of the Education Act 1998.
• Information may be shared with an tÚdarás um Ard-Oideachas (the Higher Education Authority) where it is needed to perform its functions under section 3(a), (b) or (d) of the Higher Education Authority Act 1971.
• The types of information that may be shared must be prescribed — meaning they are set out in regulations rather than being open-ended.
