Information required by Minister

Section 260 gives the Minister power to require specified persons to provide information for the purpose of controlling and investigating entitlement to social welfare benefits, and creates a criminal offence for non-compliance.

• The Minister may require prescribed persons to provide prescribed information to help control and investigate benefit entitlement.
• This power covers benefits under the Act itself and any schemes administered by or on behalf of the Minister.
• Failure to comply with an information requirement is a criminal offence.
• A person convicted summarily of non-compliance faces a fine of up to €2,000.
