Modified insurance

Section 14 gives the Minister power to make regulations that modify how Part 2 of the Act applies to specific categories of employees.

• Regulations may adapt social insurance rules for employees in certain scheduled employments, Eircom, statutory transport undertakings, and voluntary hospitals or nursing organisations.
• Teachers in recognised primary schools, post-primary schools, and various training colleges may also be subject to modified rules.
• Special provision exists for employees who changed jobs on or after 5 April 1995 while maintaining permanent, pensionable status with adequate sick pay arrangements.
• The section also covers Army Nursing Service members and those in occupational injuries insurable employment, and operates alongside other regulation-making powers in Part 2.
