Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 113

Pre-1953 pension

Section 113 provides for a reduced State Pension (Contributory) for people who made contributions under the old National Health Insurance Acts 1911 to 1952.

  • Eligibility requires reaching pensionable age, having been an employed contributor under the National Health Insurance Acts 1911 to 1952, and having made contributions for at least 260 contribution weeks since first becoming insured under those Acts.
  • Old contributions are converted favourably when calculating entitlement: every 2 contributions under the old Acts count as 3 contribution weeks, and any odd contribution counts as 2 contribution weeks.
  • The pension is paid at half the standard State Pension (Contributory) rate, with the increases for a qualified adult and for qualified children also halved.
  • Standard increases for living alone, being aged 80 or over, or ordinary residence on an island apply in full, and only one pension may be paid under this Chapter.
