Data exchange - rented accommodation

Section 269 authorises the Minister to share prescribed information about rented houses, landlords (or their agents) and tenants with local authorities, to assist fire authorities and housing authorities in carrying out their functions.

  • The Minister may share prescribed information relating to rented houses, landlords or their agents, and tenants with local authorities, regardless of any restrictions in other legislation.
  • Information may be shared to assist fire authorities in exercising their functions under the Fire Services Act 1981.
  • Information may also be shared to assist housing authorities in exercising their functions under sections 17, 18 and 20 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1992.
  • A local authority that receives information under this section may only use it for these specified fire safety and housing authority purposes.
