Disqualifications

Section 50 sets out the circumstances under which a woman may be disqualified from receiving maternity benefit.

  • Regulations may disqualify a woman from maternity benefit if she works during the payment period.
  • Disqualifying work includes any insurable employment, insurable (occupational injuries) employment, or insurable self-employment.
  • Certain other employments and self-employments specified in Schedule 1 also trigger disqualification.
  • Failing to attend or submit to a required medical examination without good cause is also a disqualifying event.
