Increases for a qualified child

Section 161I provides for increases to the weekly blind welfare allowance where the recipient has qualified children, and specifies how the increase is divided when both members of a couple receive the allowance.

• Recipients of blind welfare allowance receive a weekly increase for each qualified child, as set out in column (4) of Part 1 of Schedule 4.
• The increase is added to the standard weekly rate of blind welfare allowance under section 161H.
• Where both members of a couple receive blind welfare allowance, the child increase is split equally between them.
• Blind welfare allowance is administered and paid by the HSE, not the Department of Social Protection.
