Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 117

Increases (including increases for qualified adult and qualified children)

Section 117 sets out the various increases that may be added to the basic weekly rate of State Pension (Transition).

  • A beneficiary may receive an increase for one qualified adult, with payment going directly to that adult (or their nominee) for claims made after 24 September 2007.
  • An increase is payable for each qualified child normally residing with the beneficiary, though this may be halved or eliminated depending on the income and status of the beneficiary's spouse, civil partner, or cohabitant.
  • Additional increases apply where the beneficiary has reached pensionable age and lives alone, or is ordinarily resident on an island.
  • A further increase applies once the beneficiary reaches age 80.
