Duration of Covid-19 pandemic unemployment payment

Section 68N establishes the mechanism for ending the Covid-19 pandemic unemployment payment scheme.

  • The Covid-19 pandemic unemployment payment will end on a date prescribed by the Minister through regulations
  • The Minister must obtain consent from the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform before making these regulations
  • Regulations will specify both a cut-off date for new applications and a separate date when all existing payments cease
  • The Minister must consider government Covid-19 support policies, available income supports, Social Insurance Fund sustainability, and efficient use of resources
