Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 178C

One-parent family payment β€” transitional provisions in certain circumstances where child attains relevant age

Section 178C provided transitional protection for certain one-parent family payment recipients whose entitlement would otherwise have ended due to changes in the qualifying age of their youngest child, with this protection phasing out between 2012 and 2015.

  • Applied to claimants who started receiving one-parent family payment between 27 April 2011 and 2 May 2012 and remained on the payment immediately before 3 May 2012.
  • Protected recipients whose youngest child had reached or would reach age 12, allowing continued payment until the child turned 14, 12, or 10 depending on the period.
  • Extended protection until the youngest child turned 16 where the claimant qualified for carer's allowance or the child was receiving domiciliary care allowance.
  • The transitional arrangements ceased to have effect on 2 July 2015.
