Qualified child

Section 186C defines who qualifies as a "qualified child" for the purposes of domiciliary care allowance.

  • The child must be under 16 years of age and have a severe disability requiring care and attention substantially greater than that normally needed by a child of the same age.
  • The severity of the disability must be such that full-time care and attention will likely be required for at least 12 consecutive months.
  • The child must be ordinarily resident in Ireland or satisfy alternative residency requirements set out in the Act.
  • The child must not be detained in a children detention school.
