Data exchange - sharing of personal public service number

Section 267 allows specified bodies to share prescribed information with the Minister in order to obtain Personal Public Service (PPS) numbers, and permits the Minister to use that information to identify PPS numbers and update records.

  • A specified body may share prescribed information with the Minister for the purpose of obtaining the PPS number for each person to whom the information relates.
  • The Minister may use information received from a specified body to identify the relevant PPS number and to update the Minister's own records for that person.
  • Where a specified body has requested a PPS number, the Minister may share prescribed information back with that body for the purpose of providing the PPS number.
  • All information sharing under this section is limited to prescribed categories of information and is restricted to the specific purposes set out in the section.
