Rate of benefit

Section 42 specifies that the weekly rate of illness benefit is determined by reference to a schedule within the Act.

• The weekly rate of illness benefit is set out in column (2) of Part 1 of Schedule 2 of the Act.
• For 2026, the standard weekly rate of illness benefit is €254.
• The rate is subject to other provisions within the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005.
• The schedule-based approach means the rate can be updated by amending the schedule rather than the core legislation.
