Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 61I

Rate of benefit

Section 61I establishes how the weekly rate of Parent's Benefit is determined.

  • Parent's Benefit is a weekly payment for qualifying employees and self-employed persons taking parent's leave.
  • The weekly rate is calculated by comparing two amounts and awarding whichever is greater.
  • The first amount is the Illness Benefit the claimant would receive if they were entitled to it, including any increases for dependants.
  • The second amount is a flat rate of €299, which acts as a minimum weekly payment.
