Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 103

Duration of payment

Section 103 sets out the maximum duration for which carer's benefit may be claimed in respect of any one care recipient.

  • Carer's benefit is subject to a lifetime limit of 104 weeks per care recipient.
  • The 104 weeks need not be consecutiveβ€”separate periods of claiming are aggregated.
  • Once the 104-week threshold is reached, no further carer's benefit can be paid for caring for that same individual.
  • The limit applies on a per-person basis, so a carer may potentially claim afresh if they begin caring for a different person.
