Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 section 68KJ

Jobseeker's pay-related benefit - disqualification for course of study

Section 68KJ sets out when students and recent school leavers are excluded from claiming Jobseeker's Pay-Related Benefit.

  • You cannot receive Jobseeker's Pay-Related Benefit while attending a course of study, unless specific exceptions apply under regulations.
  • School leavers are treated as "in education" for three months after finishing secondary school or completing the Leaving Certificate, whichever is later.
  • Students are treated as "in education" throughout the academic year and during summer breaks between years.
  • The summer exclusion does not apply after the final year of a course β€” graduates may claim immediately upon completion.
